  SCHOOLS' ART COMPETITION

The winners of the 2010 LIAT sponsored Antigua Sailing Week Schools’ Art Competition have been announced.  A remarkable 278 entries were received from 20 schools across the island.

All submissions this year were of an extremely high calibre, and all participants should be incredibly proud of their achievements," said Thalia David, co-ordinator of the Art Competition.  “It is genuinely inspiring to see such imaginative thinking and exciting ideas showcased through the Competition.

The competition has generated great response from many students, and the quality of entries made the judges' decision a challenging task. According to Brian Challenger, LIAT’s CEO, "We were delighted with the interest in the competition and to see so many local schoolchildren participating. We’re really pleased with the winning designs and think that they look absolutely brilliant.

One of this year’s winner, Jamie Gardner (Senior Division), has been involved in the competition for a number of years.  Most recently, she was the overall winner in 2008 and received an honorary mention in 2009. In keeping with tradition, she will once again have the privilege of having her artwork displayed on a billboard welcoming persons to English Harbour, home of Antigua Sailing Week.

An exhibition of all artwork will be on display at Admiral’s Inn and HQ Restaurant in Nelsons Dockyard from 24th Apri l– 1st May 2010. The winners will be presented with their prizes at the Awards ceremony during the Dockyard Day festivities on May 1st at 3 pm.
